Chicken house door …
What do you do on a chilly day when all you feel is tired and depressed? Paint and install a door for the chicken house! (Okay, to be honest my husband did the hard work of installation.) As I was marking it off and gathering the paint cans, my husband kept looking at it wondering what it would look like. Being the artistic type, it has to be unique to suit me. What my other land partners think doesn’t have any influence at all. When Mr Bull saw it, he mooed and walked away. The dogs stared at it, and said, “Oh well, that’s normal – for her.” The chickens pecked it to make sure it was real. Finally, my husband said, “Okay, eh, does it have a name?” “Don’t you recognize a Chicken Angel when you see one?” Sh
Pharoah Inhotep … fascinating history
At brucepoinsette.wordpress.com, Bruce was talking about Pharoah Inhotep. Since I love reading about historical people that contributed so much to our world of knowledge, I thought I would start studying him. About ten years ago, I painted this image that so many people interpreted as Egyptian. So, I thought I would use it for this post! So far, my first stop is Wikipedia. For those that know me, I refuse to put a fence around my world or my God. Maybe as a result of this, my mind is more open to possibilities of life. The thing that struck me immediately about this Pharoah – he was deified through the claim his mother was the goddess of the sky and his father the earth god, and he was their first common mortal human. He personally contributed knowledge to...
a senior lady (oil painting)
No, I haven’t given her a name. I don’t know who she is, or where she came from. Not being particularly pretty or ugly, she does seem to be someone that has tried to care for herself. I have mixed emotions when she looks at me. Generally, I consciously read more from a person by their eyes and their mouth. Don’t understand why, or if others do the same. I don’t know yet, what she’s trying to tell me. It’s possible I may never know – but not likely. Every image of the mind has a reason. ShareEmailFacebook
“From the Sea”… another painting study
I read many lessons on portraits, and followed lessons by practicing each feature, trying to remember all the rules – measurements, iris size, proportion, color, lighting, shading, angles, perspective…..whew! What I really rather do is get a clean canvas, mask off the general area smaller than what I think I need for the face, then let it dry (about one week). Then with brush and diluted paint, start shading in areas with base color, usually a muted shade of green. This is my “drawing.” From this stage, I add detail with color. My goal is not to paint a portrait. Have you seen the work of portrait artists? They are incredible – and I can’t do that! However, I can do what I love – watching a face on canvas slowly appear...
A study in life …
When I was a young woman, I remember the first sentence most strangers would ask in a social situation. “What do you do?” Or, if they knew you worked for a company, “What is your title?” The query was always spoken with a smile. As the years went by, my life became more complex with a variety of activities. My answers became varied specific to the social occasion. I added, “Mrs.” – “Mother” – “Private Personnel Recruiter” – “Executive Administration” – “Realtor” – “Business Owner” – “Rancher” – “Artist” – “Quilter” – “Custom Accent Treasure Box Designer and Builder”...
unfinished cowboy (oil painting)
Unfinished Cowboy I was talking with Mairi Budreau, a Canadian artist whose work I really like. She had posted a WIP (work in progress) of one of her paintings, named “Victorio.” Hint – she’s more advanced in her talent than I am! Anyway, I told her I would post one I’m working on – so here is “Jake.” Now that’s not his real name, because he isn’t a real person. He’s a figment of my imagination! Sorry the photo ended up a tad blurry, but when I eventually get it finished, I’ll post a new one. So, here he is, Mairi! See, I told you yours was better! Have a wonderful day! PS: I didn’t show her website, because I forgot to get her permission to put a link on my Blogroll. Hopefully, I...
