Influence vs Free Will …

I would recommend that one be comfortable in his/her decision of what they believe they need. I respect their choice of how they claim their freedom. It’s obvious to most adults that all choices have consequences. This is not a negative thing. It’s a simple understanding of the processes of life that, by default, we cannot have everything during one lifetime – so that fact leaves us with freedom of choice. I believe we are here to live and learn. Others might not believe that. Past that, the details are up to us, and their implications will prove to each of us how difficult, painful, or simple, our life will or could be. It would not be beneficial for us to be given instructions at birth of how we should think and live. What would we learn? How could we...

#20 Best Update!

She has a perfect small stocky baby boy calf! (Camera problems – photos soon!) I’m so excited – just had to share! It was 110 degrees here today – spent time with a water hose shower to cool down the little ones and some of the cows that wanted to. I don’t force the water on them – they have to come close enough to decide for themselves. Of course, Mr. Bull was second in line – such a gentleman. Thank you, God, for another healthy calf. Why did the stock market fall?

If you have read any of my posts, you will know enough about me to understand my level of market and financial knowledge is not at a professional level. That’s why I’m so curious and hope others are willing to share a little. Are you also one of the millions wondering why the stock market fell over three days of trading? I’ve read many explanations of why, but I also really want to know how. Investors are fleeing the market due to lack of confidence in the market: Really? Suddenly all those investors just decided to do this at the same time? The rating downgrade by S&P scared the investors: The decline started before the rating announcement. The major thing I know from the news reports is that the value of the market fell approximately three...

What would I do if money …

Over the years, I’ve read stories about the wealthy and the suddenly new wealthy. There appears to be a big difference between those. A variation is, the difference in behavior between those with “old money” vs “new money.” I’ve often wondered how the abundance of money would change me, or my life – and asked myself, “If I did not have to worry about lack of money, what would I be doing today?” Also, “If I did not have to worry about the security of money I have, what would I be doing today?” Those are really two different questions. Since, at my age, the chance of becoming wealthy is zero, I need to be more practical with my efforts to concentrate on protecting what I have. Retirement funds trusted...

Texas Calving during Drought

Okay, the secret is out – I like cattle! I’m not very good at painting them but I gave it my best shot. #20 is probably my favorite because she follows me around even when she’s not particularly hungry! Any day now, she’ll drop her first calf. Watching her mature the last two years, she’s turned into a beautiful big sweetheart. As you can imagine, raising cattle is not cheap these days with the drought being the worst in many years. The price of hay and feed has gone through the roof – but what are you going to do after the investment of raising them? You can’t let them go hungry – you can’t take them to the sale barn as if they’re just so much heavy baggage. So, you find the money somehow and keep them...
